If the universe (and the void by extension) is sentient, it likely spared the Wattersons and gave them a second chance since they were supposedly capable of living life like a normal family and weren't deemed mistakes. Admittedly, there are a few holes in this, one of them being why the void didn't just take the Wattersons. It's possible that it wiped the memories of the townsfolk moments before the attack (I.E. The void in.well." The Void" saved the Wattersons from certain demise in "The Finale."The void is a dimension of mistakes (or at least what it deems as such), retcons, disasters, and wiped memories. Rob was trying to prevent this outcome by turning Elmore into a different genre of animated series, one that can exist without with a Kid Hero, such as a Slice of Life School Soap like Brace Face, but since he failed, the Eve before Gumball's birthday marked the end of Elmore- And the end of the show. And because 13 years old Teen Gumball means no Kid Gumball, Elmore no longer has a purpose and is ceasing to exist. The World gave up and allowed his birthday to come. So as soon as the world decided it had been delaying Gumball's puberty for too long, it was becoming too obvious he'd moved up a grade and already gone through 3 separate Halloween episodes. Puberty could render him unfit for this role. Without him, Elmore loses its integrity - but at the same time, this all hinges on him being a silly, over-excitable mischievous kid. If the entire world just existed to give Kid Protagonist Gumball a backdrop to commit weirdness upon, a lot of things would start to make sense his and Darwin's inability to have their voices drop permanently, even though others (such as Anais, who is not nearly as close to the center of attention) have no such problem, the Awesome Store's latest Deus ex Machina or MacGuffin always finding its way to the Wattersons somehow, and the Void's seeming refusal to erase or freeze Gumball even the one time he ended up there without any sort of protection. His 13th Birthday is approaching, and if he turns into a teen, the world loses its Kid Hero and, thus, its reason for existing.It's been demonstrated in several episodes, such as The Test, that Elmore quite intentionally keeps Gumball the center of attention and that he's the closest to the Fourth Wall and most able to influence it at all times. The reason Banana Barbara says "There is no future" and that Elmore is being consumed by the Void is Gumball.
